New Lens Problem

Today I received from Adorama a new Laowa 100mm f2.8 2x RF mount macro lens.
It is manual focus and manual aperture.
It mounted correctly on my RP and focused well. After obtaining focus I could tell the aperture was correctly set by looking thru the viewfinder.
Then, nothing. I depressed the shutter but it would not take a photo. Just a faint click.
I always assume that any problems with my equipment are caused by me and not a fault of the equipment. I tend to be a knucklehead. That said, before I contact Adorama to return the lens can any of you smart people here give me suggestions.
My other RF mount lens works fine on the camera.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

The lens may not be providing an electrical connection the camera expects, even though the selected aperture appears in the viewfinder. Though I'm not familiar with that specific camera or lens, I suggest you check the menu to see if there is a menu setting allowing you to release the shutter even if a lens is not attached, turn that to "allow" or whatever is appropriate and try to trip the shutter (with the lens attached).

There is a setting in the Custom Functions Settings that you need to change to allow the camera to release the shutter without a lens.

Goto to Custom Functions Settings in the cameras menu.
Select C.Fn II: Others
Go to the third item, Release shutter w/o lens
Change that setting to 1: Enable

Hope this helps.

I'm aware you're not talking about Nikon but in the Nikon's camera menu there is an option that allows the shutter to release only when it's in focus. You can, in the menu, change that to allow the shutter to release whether it's in focus or not. If you have that option possibly the shutter is not releasing because the camera is determining it is not in focus. Set that to allow the shutter to release whether focus is attained or not.

Suspect the problem lies behind the viewfinder.

My Sony bodies also have a "release without lens" function that needs to be set to "allow" in the menu system.

But more importantly, let's all just ignore the trolls who lurk here and their hostile comments.

"Release without lens" is the way on all micro 4/3 and Fuji X cameras; I pretty sure it would be a similar function on your Canon mirrorless camera.

This is one of several reasons why I always recommend to use the lenses made by the manufacturer for their cameras.

There are also several reasons one might want to use lenses not made by the camera manufacturer. Having to change a setting in a menu doesn’t seem to be an onerous enough reason to avoid 3rd party lenses.

With mirrorless cameras, once you set it, you're done—no need to change the setting regardless of what lens you use.

Are you within the minimum focus depth?

There is a setting for working without a lens attached. I had the same problem with an older lens and the adapter even though others worked. Camera must think nothing is there.

I agree with the solution of changing the camera setting to "release without lens" for I have two mirrorless cameras and both require non-CPU lenses to operate only if that open is set. Otherwise...no "click".
