Can one use Topaz while in Lightroom or does one wait until the image has been converted to JPG and then go from there? I have the sharpening and noise reduction module. Thanks for your advice in advance.

I use it as a plug-in in Photoshop so it's operating on a DNG file which I will then save as a jpg.

If you have a post-processing Lightroom plug-in, then it's generally better to start with a RAW file, as you have more editing latitude. I typically have the plug-in create a TIF file, which is filed along side the original in LR.

I would have the same question for Photoshop CS6 or CC. I use Topaz and Nik at various points in my work flow sometimes but I have never really know if there is a best way or point of using them.

How did you plug it in? Was it done automatically as part if the install process?

It installed automatically in Photoshop's filter set. I used it there. Here is a shot of mine that I took yesterday in the Ramble of Central Park in NYC. I used Topaz with the first photo. The second one was just pre-Topaz. You can see the difference clearly when you magnify them.

Jpg is too late. Process before that takes place and then export to jpg at the end.

When I save out of Photoshop RAW (after I am done with all of my sliders) in comes over in JPEG, then I apply my Topaz Sharpen and DeNoise.

I think whatever Topaz module would not take a raw file. Therefore the choice would be how to export the LR or CameraRawFilter result as Tiff, Jpeg, of PNG in order to obtain better result from post processing with whatever Topaz module. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Topaz should have instructions on how to connect the software as a plugin. In Lightroom you configure the settings in the Edit menu with the Topaz product as an external editor. In use, the software converts the RAW image to a format that it can use (I use TIF) and delivers the result back to LR in that format as a new file.

Both AI and DeNoise(no did no say which) works from LR and PS as plug in and stand alone. That said I would use it against the raw file as it has much more data to work with like 14 bits vs 8. If I have to do some PS post work I will run it from PS which drops it back into LR. Other times just from LR.

Topaz will work in a TIFF or DNG. I use it as a plug in with light room, just make sure it’s set to open a 16 bit TIFF rather than a JPEG. As for when, usually it’s the second thing I do. First I crop, then Denoise if I need it, then sliders, although if I’m making big exposure adjustments sometimes I’ll do that before Denoise.

If you're going to edit you should shoot in raw and edit the raw photo. Most quality editors will work within Lightroom as a plug-in which is installed automatically. If you did this then just right click the photo edit in and select topaz from the list.

FYI, when editing the raw photo and Lightroom it is never directly changed, the raw photo is always preserved.

Download shows lots of noise and soft focus.
The other looks very good.
I would use Denoise or Sharpen on tiff’s or raws.
