About a week ago, I bought a Tacklife battery jumper. I did that because I left the headlights on, and the battery went dead. I figured since I bought the jumper, I'd never have a dead battery again. Wrong! I got in the car yesterday, pushed the button, and "Grr, grr, grr." Within about a minute, the Tacklife had the engine running. It seems the car door wasn't closed completely, so the interior lights were on for a couple of days.
I would recommend that you get one of the many compact battery jumpers now available.
I get to use one I purchased a few times every year for myself or a friend and think them almost an essential item on a farm.
I just jump off of my lawn tractor.

Jerry, how long does it hold a charge? Do you recharge it periodically?
I just make sure my doors are closed and my lights are off.

I haven't recharged it since I got it two weeks ago. I did one jump start, and it's still at 100%. From what they say online, it holds a charge for months.
They will hold a charge for months unused. They also come with maintainer switches where you plug them into A/C and they stay charged. The one I have has a green light to let me know it is fully charged and if used, the light will go yellow until it is again fully charged and the light changes back to green.

Thanks. What brand do you use?
Because of similar experiences I disabled all lights when I open my truck door and just get out without having to worry about battery life. Of course, I have to pull out the key half way so the darn chimes stop too.
Works for me as I'm behind an electric gate on the property.
Super capacitor is the way to go. It's the newest technology that doesn't need to stay charged. They're about $130 on Amazon. I have the Autowit. Check out the reviews. You'll never buy a Lithium Ion or lead acid power pack again. Progress marches on.

I can plug this one into the car to charge it. So, after it gets the car started, I could plug it in and charge the jumper. It can also charge "devices" with the included cables.

The one I have is not that sophisticated it just uses A/C to recharge but I don't want or need all the options. I use it to start my farm tractor and mowers in the spring or to go help a friend get a car started or to start my car that was left with a light on and after the use it goes back on the shelf in the garage where it gets charged and stays until it is needed again. I had another popular brand before that was to be charged once a month per instructions and I did not use it and forgot it for about 3 or 4 months and when I tried to charge it, it would not hold a charge. I then bought the one I have now. Regardless, these things are super handy!
That just happen to me, so I went on line and got one called Sunpow. It’s a small lithium, 1200 amp charger, 2x3x6 in long. Holds it’s charge for about 6 months. USB charge ports, will do cell phone, IPads etc. 59 bucks. Better than jumping cables.
Handy for sure. My truck turns the lights off after about 10 minutes.
