These are three dear friends who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Blue Eyes used to walk with me in the park and would always hurry over to greet me when I came to the park. I do miss my walks with him! And Sylvester...gone but not forgotten. And Nickleby belonged to a friend of mine, but we were close friends. I miss him.

The dearest of friends can never be forgotten. Funny you should post these tonight (or this morning) I just got through writing my sister about our past pets. I still cry for them and hold them deep inside my heart. They will be in Heaven before any of us as they have no sins to pay for first.

Darn it! There's so little "agenda" between us and animals that when they go it just mows you down. I'm sorry. We're in the process of losing a sweet kitty as well.

Please know that my heart is with your heart sorting out the pain. If your sweet kitty could speak, she would say, "go save another." How easy the thought, how hard the deed. We need to mourn.....each at our own pace. I have two aged pets who are my identity. What will I do without them. Time will tell me and the love of friends who think loving a pet is the meaning of life will help me manage the events to come.

I appreciate your sympathetic thoughts. He is in fact a "saved kitty" but he's been a house pet for so long it's hard to remember he was ever feral. I like it that he's always had the good sense to remain grateful.

You are blessed. I love him from afar. My kitty was also feral and she is bound to me more than her very existence. I'm so glad I gave her the brave ability to love.

Thank you all for looking and identifying with my feelings! We did "replace" (well, you can hardly replace them!) our kitty with our silly, cute, lovable, bitey Oreo! :) Sorry Sylvester's picture is out of focus; it's hard to tell on the little thumnails.

Thanks, Cindy11. You'd love him up close too. His name is Andrew.

Indeed our pets do become our closest friends. They never complain while they give us their unconditional love. They hold no grudges, they never seek revenge, never ask for anything in return. They spend their lives giving us years of love and enjoyment freely. Somehow they know how to make us laugh and they also know when they've pushed the limit of our patience. Each is unique, each is special in their own way. Because of this closeness, it's up to us to keep them healthy and nurture their existance with us. I believe God granted us these companions to remind us of how we should be, but unfortunately we as humans have fallen way short.

Sailorsmom...this is just a brief seperation. Life is an energy force of infinite bounds that powers the universe. It's beyond our comprehesion. Your dearly departed friends will never forget you and your kindness...it just can't be.

And I too have concerns for my kitty Nash. He's now 15 years old. The most gentle cat I have ever known. A protector when he was young and needed to be. A carer of other cats in our household in his middle ages. Now in his declining years...blind, has trouble walking. But if he can find you...his heart gives out a long warm Purrrr to you. He still Purrs. His time is so limited, but my trust in God gives me comfort in knowing I will see him again with the beautiful golden eyes he once had.

You're right, you don't really replace them, but you give your heart, and an animal, another chance. I feel that it' s almost disrespectful to a deceased pet if you don't give another one a chance, though I can't articulate it. It's not as if you forget the
former one; you just muster the courage to forge a new bond.
But we all have our unique way of dealing with loss, and some never want to go there again.

Nash looks like a very good and dignified old cat. I wish him the best in his limited time.
