In Texas, a legal shoot makes it impossible to sue.
Shoot until they stop moving. They don't move when they are dead.
Some folks in Austin are trying to change all that...hopefully they will not repeal the Castle Doctrine which allows homeowners to protect themselves, their family, and their property.

Dead men don't hire a sleazy lawyer and sue you. The point made is that if you come into my house uninvited I will kill you. If anyone breaks into my house I will go for a head shot because I want the SOB dead.
Oh come on!! He is just trying to feed his family and meth habit. Have a heart.

Geez! After the perpetrator sees the mat, I doubt he would even enter the building making any need to sue void. Like telling them you have an alarm system or not-too-friendly dog.
That's assuming the perp can read English or at all.
OK everybody quit posturing. Regardless of the reason, what you are talking about here is Taking A Human Life.
If you are a hand gun owner and not spending a couple of days a month on the range perfecting your skills you more of a danger to innocent bystanders than to the bad guy. Defending the family home? Forget a hand gun. Buy a 20 inch barrel 12 gauge shot gun, load it, not with 00 ought buckshot, but with #4 buckshot. Why? It is less likely to go through walls and hit family members. I prefer a pump gun because racking the slide often ends the confrontation before it starts.
If you think you are in a situation that requires shooting, shoot! No warning shot, no "Stop I have a gun". Please, please, please remember that bullet is going to go somewhere you may wish it hadn't.

And now you have given the criminal all the fodder to SUE!!!
This is just like waving a weapon in the air and saying come on I DARE you.
I disagree.
Having said that you don't need to kill a home invader
unless they are armed with a lethal weapon...
If they are not armed with a lethal weapon, a
shotgun blast into their private parts is survivable,
but will stop them in their tracks.

Talk is cheap! You might want to put some more thought into this blustering.
Killing somebody, even a burglar, might, and probably will, cost you more than he will have stolen, and no end of hassles, emotional and legal as well as financial. Even dead men have relatives with lawyers. It doesn't even matter if you were justified legally. It will still be very expensive.
to protect my family from harm would be worth any expense, and in a case like this a go fund me page woiuld pay for my layer

No but their survivors do.
I think the whole reason for having this mat is to deter anyone from coming in in the first. place. It is kinda like posting that you have an alarm in your house so go somewhere else. This location is just not worth the trouble.

Exactly. This is not a safe place for a criminal. If that deters them then there are no further consequences. End of story.
