It seems like this time of year we would normally head west to the Dakotas and Wyoming to look for the new arrivals.
This year it isn't going to happen, so I was looking back at some trips we made and thought I'd share some images I made from our early May 2018 Trip to western South and North Dakota.
All images using 6D with 100-400 II.
Enjoy.
Bison calf less than 2 days old (note umbilical cord hasn't fallen off yet). Still a bit unsteady.

Bighorn Lamb & Ewe. The lamb is close to the same color as the surrounding rocks and sleeps in a position that could be mistaken as a rock from a distance - Badlands NP

Same photo but uncropped - from more of a distance you get the idea of the lamb's camouflage strategy.

Took dozens (hundreds?) of BNP images with playing lambs, but they weren't as interesting as this one. This little guy (girl?) found about the only patch of green grass to stand on for me (with flowers!) showing the wonder of everything that is new.

Spring foal with mare at Teddy Roosevelt NP - North Section. I love how the foal looks a bit hesitant and is sticking to its mom REALLY close. Less than a week old from what ranger said as all the mares in that herd give birth at the same time.

It always amazes me that those guys can walk as soon as their born. Took me about a year.
