Singapore & Asia
We will be going to Singapore 2 days before leaving on a cruise taking us up to Hong Kong. Where are some great spots to take pics from. I want to get some of the city at night. We will also be going to Koh Samui, Bangkok, Sihanoukville, Ho Chi Minh, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Halong Bay ending in Hong Kong for two days. I'm looking for suggestions on these places too.
In Hong kong, one of the best views available is from Victoria Peak,it's a must
You lucky bear. Hope this helps. Singapore, night shots, anywhere along Orchard Rd (main shopping st). The roof of your hotel is good if you can get access (generally the swimming pool)(the Westin Stamford is great) Good local food market shots at Newton Circus. Saigon - Ben Thanh market. Take a Tuk Tuk, (US$4 to virtually anywhere, easier to take him for the day, $20) Driver will show you around and they know all the good spots. Halong Bay, anywhere out in the bay on one of the day trips (generally very smoky/hazy, be prepared to photoshop to get a nice sky) Hong Kong. If you have 2 days there make one day a trip to Macau (90 min ferry ride) ferry terminal off Canton Rd. Plenty of taxi's and cheap in Macau (good place to buy gold for your wife too). Check out the Venetian Hotel. In HK use MRT is very good. Go to Tung Chung MRT station and then up to the Buddah statue at the top of Lantau Island on the cable car.I feel it beats Victoria peak hands down. Have a great holiday.
Hong Kong Harbor overlook at night is great. Need a good tripod. I second the vote for Lantau Island and the Buddah. It's also a great cable car ride.
With only 2 days I suggest the latest attraction Garden By The Bay right in the heart of the City. The Bird Park where you can get good quality photos of a wide variety of birds at one location. Then if you still have time visit the Orchid garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
i was there in june. I would say Marina Bay Sands offer a magnificent perspective of the whole bay and also Mount Faber (where u get the cable cabin to Sentosa). These two places are "must to go" ones.

I once lived in Saigon, Da Nang and Hue. Saigon is a very large city, so any Pictures there will be mostly people and stores. Also street scenes. In Da Nang look at Monkey Mountain and Marble Mountain. If you can make a deviation in your itinerary, try to get to Hue and look for the Imperial Palace. When I was in Hue, I often watched a woman operating a ferry by sculling oar. If she is still doing it it would make a very nice photo. In all the places you go, look for the unusual. The local people want to show you the new things they have, understandably, but you will want to see the older ways. Have fun on your trip. I am jealous!
Singapore:Book a city tour (Tour East almost in every hotel) This shows you all the land marks. In the afternoon/ evening head to Marina Bay and the new hotel Sands where on the visitors skypark you have the best view over the city and sea.If you have time left go to Botanic Garden and head for the orchid garden.
Some Pictures from Singapore supporting my earlier message, as I didn't know how to attach the pictures.

Looking back at Hong Kong and harbor at night from Kowloon is great, also the sampan village in Aberdeen on the other side of the island is great. You can hire a boat/sampan there to take you for a photo ride around that harbor.
In Singapore I always enjoyed the fortifications on Sentosa Island and the Battle Box. Kind of chilling for a place that rarely drops below 92 dgrees.

Liked the Sing pix but was only able to view the first two. The third one "Sentosa Island" was truncated and only about the top quarter was viewable. Don't know if there were any more pix tafter that or not, but the first two bring back good memories of that beautiful city.
