I'm posting two photos of two different ladies walking the sidewalk in St. Paul Minnesota, taken on the same day. I kept them in color because color is important in both images.
In one the figure seems almost insignificant in the color and structure of he the surroundings, in the other the figure color is mute against the colorful wall, but you can determine
a look of cheer on her face. The images seem to evoke two different feelings.
In the first one, the building overwhelms the walker. It comes across to me as serious, somber. The second is the opposite. As you mentioned, the walker has a joyful expression and the graffiti gives a fun and uplifting feeling. The second one makes me smile.
I agree with both you and Cwilson341 that they are quite different photos and that the color adds to them. I like them both and think it's a good comparison of two quite different photos with the same theme.
