Little Wildflowers are Popping

I walked the yard this morning and to my greatest joy I found that the tiny colors are starting to pop. I found this Persian Speedwell (Veronica persica) and I brought one in to stage for a focus stacking session to get a view of its reproductive parts and this is what I discovered at 5X magnification. If you look closely you will see the bits of pollen waiting patiently for a bee to drop in to pollinate it.

The Persian Speedwell is a weedy plant however it is not invasive enough to be considered a pest plant due to its very small size.

Although it is merely a weed it is a welcome sight in my yard and it is a sure sign that "spring is in the air"

No flowers here yet, ex. indoors. Next week is the usual time for Daffodils.

Thanks, Quixdraw. Ours are just starting to show themselves including a few dandelions. No pollinators yet although hopefully they will be drawn in by the colors.

Thanks, Mark. With the little blossoms starting to show the pollinators will not be to far away.

Very clean image of the pollen. Vellum is working great! Now try a stack at 10X.

Very nice Gary. I have been waiting ages for you to do one of your high magnification shots of pollen and reproductive plant parts. I hope this will be the first of many.

Thanks, Brenda. I enjoy working with insects however wildflowers are my greatest passion and when viewed up close they display their majesty.
