I have a Sony A-33 DSLR which I damaged by causing it to fall along with the tripod it was mounted on. (Sheer & unadulterated Clumsiness & Carelessness.) The problem is in the Playback mode where a large Black streak the runs diagonally across the screen. I've tried a new card, and removing the battery for a couple hours. Nothing helps. The camera is damaged.
Questions: Is it worth repairing? Where do I send it or take it?
Or should I get a new camera? I have 3 good lenses that fit Sony DSLR's.
The place here in Jacksonville (Southern Photo Technical Service) is not very reliable. I took a lens there for repair, and 2 months later it was still not ready. If I have misjudged them let me know.
Any & all advice and/or suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Tom
Don't know if it is worth it but there is someone on the hog that is reported to do good camera repair at a reasonable cost. don't know how to research it on hog though.
yes its worth it, just checked net they are going for $600.00 Plus.
The repair man has been advertised several times recently, Jerry put it up once (there is only one Jerry, he writes about his Mac PC and his new camera, and his night list)

Tom-I just had a really good experience with Sony Repair. I have an A-77, and in a (extremely)clumsy attempt to clean it I damaged it. I called to get information about sending it in for repair, and was told, based on what I told them, that there would be a minimum charge of $150, and that if it was more they would clear it with me before doing anything. I sent the camera off. They notified me by e-mail that they had received it on Saturday, and on Monday they called and told me that it was done, and they would send it out on Tuesday. I asked them what the charges were, and they said that there was NO CHARGE! I got the camera back on Saturday, and everything is fine. I asked them what they had done, and they said that they replaced the mirror and checked all the functions for good working order! They didn't have to repair it for free, since it was my bad, and I told them that up front. If I wasn't convinced that Sony was the right choice for me before, I am not!

Gordon,
Could please provide me with a phone number for the Sony Repair shop where you sent your camera. It would save me time from sorting through all the various Sony locations that are on the web.
Thanks,
Tom
