A couple of months ago I got an announcement regarding a photography competition that included a category called Covid-19: 20/20 Perspective. I immediately had an idea but it took me two months to finally pull it together and I got it in the day before the competition closed. A few days ago, I was notified it got First Place in the category, which I did not expect.
There is a world of difference between having an idea and being able to put the idea into action as an image. I was somewhat stumped by what kind of background to use but settled on an old-fashioned bead board background (it was on the wall). I wanted an old-fashioned feel to the image. After taking the pictures, and it took several attempts at shooting to get the look on the clothes line that I wanted, I got something I felt I could work with, even though the image looked pretty forlorn and awful. I had to use my vision to create the finished project. I don’t have an indoor studio and I’m not very experienced with lighting. The image was set up in a storage area with a floor lamp as light.
I used LrC and PS to achieve the look I wanted and choose a 1:1 ratio size. The background filters I use are from Fly Muse and Photomorphis. For the image I chose I used, in PS, Opacity 100% and Overlay mode for one layer. In a second layer I created a color layer at 62% in Overlay mode. I used a mask on both layers to delete the background from the bra and masks and clothespins, working in all the straps to remove the background filters. I wanted a muted, old-fashioned look to the final image, bringing to mind clothes hanging on an outside clothesline. All of the editing work was done in LrC. I made several variations of the image, in color and BW and used several different frames from PhotoscapeX.

Congratulations on the win, Connie! I love what you did. It took me just a minute to realize how this tied to Covid but when I got it, I thought it was genius! Your choice of processing steps worked out very well. I have to admit, of all the things you tried, you final winning image is my favorite.
Thanks, it is funny how the bra and the masks sort of merged into one and the same, takes a minute to get it.
Congratulations! Very creative. And I can't wait until we get the All Clear and can "burn" our masks. Smiles, Nancy
We can do a "mask burning" photo, too!

I'd like to see that one too, when the day comes. My glasses stay permanently fogged when I have a mask on. It might be dangerous!
Congratulations, I too like the winning image the best...
