Wow, I didn't know any of that. You must be from around this area. Fellow UHH'r "robertjerl" grew up in Wickliffe. I love going through this area. Especially those two river bridge crossings back-to-back. I had 600mm of zoom and from this vantage point, could see the bridge that goes over the Ohio. To it's left I could only see the tops of the Mississippi river bridge. It's just a cool place all around.

I'm in St. Louis but that's my river (Mississippi) and yes the Ohio confluence is a fascinating place. Cairo is such a sad place. My sister is in Nashville and we go that route to visit her.

Gotcha, I have relatives in Kansas City. I agree, been through Cairo. We've taken the northern route I-24 to I-57 to I-64 to I-70 through St. Louis, but I prefer this much more scenic and less hectic southern route.

Nice shot. I've been there. My brother retired from the paper mill and when he worked there it was Westvaco. He lives in Bandana and my nephew in Barlow. My town is on the Ohio River across from Paducah, Kentucky.

Thanks, my wife lived in Chillicothe Ohio where they have the Mead Paper Mill. I was very familiar with the smell. Kind of a mix of broccoli and pine. Across the Ohio from Paducah, might that be Metropolis Illinois? Been there and loved it.

Yeah, Metropolis. We have the Shawnee National Forest with several limestone bluffs and hiking trails. The only drawback is it's in a poorly run corrupt state.

Wonderful view! Until the completion and transfer of the Louisiana Purchase in 1804, the Mississippi here was an international border, defining the western edge of the very young United States.

And St. Louis on the western bank of the Mississippi was considered the gateway to the west. In the 1960's St. Louis erected the Gateway Arch.
