On Fridays, six or seven of us get together and bowl for best over average. The averages range from 136 to 226. I decided to take a series of shots trying to capture strikes. There were many of them so here is one typical series, and the last game scores. Everyone except the 206 and 147 were over their averages. The 206 bowlers has the 226 average.

Good action sequence! I can enjoy it here because I see it so rarely at a bowling lane (LOL).

Actually we were using last year averages for our competition. The 226 bowler has a 238 average this year and the 136 bowler has a 138 average this year. The guy with the 204 had a 164 avg and the guy with the 234 had a 203 avg.I don't know hat their avgs are for this year.

Great concept.
Your series captures the moments.
Images tell the story.
You struck out.

What was your shutter speed for the sequence?

Nice series WF2B. I bowl on 2 Senior's league have to give this a try some day. Might learn something. These pins look old. I've heard the new pins are harder to fall!

1/200 @ f/4 ISO 4000 at 200 mm for the first three shots and the seventh one and the camera changed to 1/250 @ f/4 ISO 5000 for the shots four through six. I was using a Canon RP with a Canon RF 70-200 F4 L lens @ aperture priority. The alley is about 60 feet from foul line to center of the head pin and I was back about another ten feet so I wouldn’t be in the peripheral site of the bowler. I cropped the shots to 4X5 format and exported them from Lightroom as jpegs with the long dimension at 2048 pixels. The reason for the format is that I will use four shots, three through six on a pin 8X10 composite and print them for display at the alley.

What we do is each put in $15 and if 7 of us bowl, the one with the highest above average in each game wins $14 for that game. We also play poker with anyone whose average is below 200 getting a card for each mark while those 200 and above can only get a card for a strike. If you get more than 5 marks, you can discard a card and then draw another. We use two decks of cards shuffled together. No wild cards so best 5 card poker hand wins. The poker hand winners get $5. The remainder of the money goes to the house to cover our bowling. The reason that we pay less than going rate for bowling is that the proprietor bowled with us until he had his heart problems.

Unfortunately this bowling house is going to close for good this spring. The proprietor has been running it for over 40 years (took it over when he was a freshman in college and his father died). The 12 lane building is going to become a hardware store. I also bowl at another house - a 32 lane facility - but the Friday bowlers probably will not go there.

If i decide to take more photos I will probably use Manual with f/4 and 1/250 sec and automatic ISO.

In high school I bowled a lot and my average was about 230. Went bowling a couple of months ago and my high score was 68. My wife got a good laugh out of it.

Been there and done that except I never hasd a 230 avg and I didn't start bowling ten pins until I was 30 years old. I did bowl candle pins before that. As I recall, my highest game was a 255 back when I was bowling with a 16 pound AMF 3 dot ball and never could throw a hook with it. Now I'm finally using a 12 pound plastic ball which isn't supposed to be a hook ball, but unfortunately it was drilled the same as my 14 lb reactive ball and it hooks when it shouldn't.

Thanks for the comment. I also remember the old commercial "Lucky Strike means Fine Tobacco" eventhough I never smoked.
