Is there any photographer that uses chromakey for their picture day shoots?

If you do picture day, how does green screen work out for you? Is it more work? what are the problems using it? how much time does it add to your editing? Is there a problem when using a green screen and the person has a green shirt?

"Picture day?" You also mention "Picture day" in https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-687704-1.html
Please elaborate.

I believe this is a reference to school pictures. Usually a “picture day” is scheduled, the photographer(s) show up, and the students get dressed-up.

I would guess that most photographers, at least the ones I know, do this? I suggest you try this out for yourself as ther learning curve is not long and this can be a useful tool. Best of luck.

Practice and see what works. Just a thought - I wear green clothes fairly often. My high school colors were green and white. What if someone wears green and blue?

Lived thru it as a student. Seems rather obsolete, and so I’m kinda shocked to find it still happening in the iPhone era.

The green screen further emphasizes that. Using a green screen setup to do more or less what a phone-in-hand can do all by itself internally ?

I would use chromakey to do group photos of musicians for their promotions. They could then drop in a background of their choosing for their event posters and advertisements. That is sorta like school pictures.

I've done some chroma green jobs for myself, not for the school photography company I worked for, and it was quite time consuming. That, however, was several years ago and the process was not as refined as it now is. The process with PSE is well defined and with practice could probably be completed more efficiently.

There is a program/app to facilitate replacing green screen with backgrounds that works quickly but I cannot recall the name of it now.

When a person wears green, it can be a problem, but with adjustment of the sensitivity of the green chosen to be removed, it is possible to obtain good results.

I suggest you google the procedure and review it carefully. The questions you are asking indicate, to me, that you are not fully familiar with the chroma green/blue process. Actually seeking the tutorials and researching it online may be your best avenue for learning, rather than asking questions on fora.

I use gree/blue screen all the time. Yes, It does add more work in the post-processing. In the early days of GS our backdrops had to be stretched tight and wrinkle-free and we had to use completely shadowless lighting. That meant lighting the background separately for the best results. These days the green screen programs are so sophisticated that I am able to do my school picture day photos with just one light bounced into an umbrella. (essentially flat shadowless butterfly light.) I use fxhome as as my go to software program. It has a batch processing feature that speeds extraction up. I use the largest snap out backgrounds one side blue, one side green to do head 'n' shoulder shots. The backgrounds are available on both ebay and Amazon. A colleague of mine uses backgrounds that are essencially pull up window shades. They are self enclosed and require only one backdrop stand. For school photography I offer choice of one of 10 different backgrounds, some generic some seasonal etc. Any time the parent wants more than one background, (a lot!), I charge an extra fee even though the change requires only a mouse click or two.
Finally, unless you like to be totally hands on, (like me), many processing labs offer extraction services for a small fee. You upload the green screen images and the background(s) you want to use and they do the rest.
