Might just be my eyes but the focus looks a little unsharp. But I like the colours and the overall appeal.

This photograph was taken with a Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8, 1/2000 sec at f1.8, ISO200. Obviously from this the objective was to work in a very narrow depth of field. Only the very front of the tulip is in focus. Personally, I think the softness works.

I agree with you, the softness does work. that's why I said I like the colours AND THE OVERALL APPEAL. But IMHO I would have liked too see more focus on the subject. That's just what I like - you don't have to agree.

The lenses I have are all Pro quality except this little 50mm. I am disapointed with it, especially the auto focus. I was deliberately working with a minimal depth of field. With a different lens the photograph would most likely have been sharper. I bought this cheapie knowing I wouldn't be using it very much and I thought it would be good enough-it isn't. The lens I use the most is my Canon Zoom EF 17-40mm 1:4. I am neither agreeing nor disagreeing with you because I have looked at the picture from your point of view before and after you voiced it. I probably should try to re shoot the photo with a slightly deeper depth of field.

You obviously call youself Infocus for a reason. Here is another picture taken on the same day with the same lens, same settings ie 1/2000 sec, ISO 200, but at f 2.5. A slightly smaller aperture to increase the depth of field.

With those settings on that lens or any 50 1.8 or faster you're going to get exactly what you got. I like the soft look as you don't see it that often anymore and it can be done just as effectively in PP. Good use of creativity............
