I don’t use SD cards in my cameras normally but my second slot in one camera is an SD card slot. My question is I have a couple of micro SD cards, one is 128 GB and the other is 32 GB. Would you recommend putting them into an adapter and then inserting them into the card slot in the camera? Or is this not a smart thing to do?

There is no issue. It is not even significantly slower.

The adapter can create some time errors. I used to have some extra adapter when one isn’t working today next time is it working. Don’t ask me why.

No issues, as Ron stated. Here is a photo I took some time back of an SD/Micro SD adapter. Notice that the SD card has 9 contacts but the Micro only has 8. Perhaps someone has an answer to that. I don't. Regardless, in use there is no noticeable difference between the two.
Edit: In looking closer I see that the right-hand contact also is part of the write-lock of the SD card, which the Micro doesn't have, so no need for the extra contact. Mystery solved!

I have four micros in their own adapters, never had any problems.
(Initially inserted into the adapter, never been removed.)
There is NO signal delay from using an adapter!

That’s extra confidence. Thanks

Your micro SD card looks unusual.

That's a disassembled adapter.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO DELAY involved with using an micro SDHC adapter. They are straight connection extensions, no electronics. At about a nano-second per foot transmission rate (electricity through wire), you can figure the actual delay. Not noticeable by anyone.
See the image that LFingar posted.

The only downside I can think of is that a micro-SD card is easier to lose (when it is not in the adapter). Imagine accidentally dropping a micro-SD card into tall grass... good luck finding it again!

It was a joke. Read it twice.

Sorry. Impossible to imagine ... and I tried reeeeeally hard. Try imagining munching from the litter box. (Dogs apparently are more imaginative than some humans .... ).

Maybe I’m not creative enough. I can ONLY imagine dropping a card on my desk, nowhere else. For those more imaginative than I, maybe I should mention there is NO tall grass on my desk. And no storm drain next to my desk. And no gerbils.
