GAS attach analyzed

I recently switched to mirrorless and currently have a Canon RP which replaced a Canon 5D IV. Now Canon has come out with the R6 which kind of intrigued me. But rather than just succumbing to GAS I decide to look at the Pros and Cons.
PRO (not in any particular order): Body price - $2499 (I can afford it); two S.D. card slots; in body stabilization; 12 FPS mechanical and 20 FPS electronic; animal eye detect; fairly decent battery life; and other features which are nice to have but not essential for me.

CON: I’m 90 years old and my hiking days are over, I have a bad hip; the $2499 could provide me with some really good RF glass; I’m happy with my RP; most of my current photography is family and their pets, landscape, occasional Macro, and my backyard wildlife.

Conclusion: forget the R6 and add to my lens collection.

Although I think you've arrived to the right conclusion, I'd like to add these thoughts.

First, never give up a single pixel of resolution. So, an EOS RP at 26MP to an EOS R6 at 20MP would be the wrong direction.

Next is the IBIS of the R6. Canon has enabled their RF lenses with a mixture of IS and non IS lenses. It seems to raise the question of maybe maintaining non IBIS bodies along side IBIS bodies. Guess time will tell. But, if you're retaining a portfolio of non IS-enabled lenses, an IBIS-enabled mirrorless EOS would be a valid consideration. My IBIS-enabled Sony has greatly changed my shooting with legacy FD lenses. I think many of Canon EF lenses will get a new life on EOS-R bodies, particularly the fast non L primes. I'm in the camp the RF lenses are always better, but really how much better when you think about options of cost and size and weight?

Put the money toward getting your hip repaired/replaced.

Avoid the GAS attack and take a "get more GLASS" cure. You'll be better served. Are you really looking for a cure? Can't you rent the camera / with kit lens you are lusting after for 30 days and see what comes out given time?

Pretty simple - recovery time. I had spine surgery two and a half years ago, just mostly back to normal this month. I had a rotator cuff done several years before, still wakes me up on occasion. I should have a knee replacement, at 76 I've pretty much decided I'll limp a little on bad days and wear my brace. At 90, if I live that long, in re: surgery - hell no!

I agree with you. I can still bowl and golf and if we get permission to open our curling club, I can still curl. I manage the pain on those activity days by taking either Tylenol or ibuprofen (usually alternate between them) before the activity.
As far as the GAS is concerned I definitely will not be buying a new camera. But I will be adding a new lens.
Thanks to all who have given advise.

If one has Medicare and a good medigap policy, it doesn't cost anything. At least it didn't cost me.

I don’t think the cost is an issue here; it’s the age related possible negative outcomes that have to be considered.

Cost is not a problem. I have Medicare and a good health insurance policy. But unless it gets so bad that I can't bowl and golf, then I would probably do it.
