Kobe Star- (IMO: 9748722, MMSI 538006680) is a Bulk Carrier built in 2016 (5 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands... according to Vessel Finder but here looks like an American flag attached to it.
Miles upriver from New Orleans, on the River Road, from St. Rose to Destrehan to New Sarpy to Montz, Norco, Gypsy and such places where tankers and bulk carriers wait to be loaded or unloaded, repaired or inspected or some other action that requires an exchange of goods or services and always money. I watch them muddle and slug their way up river, balancing barge bow on the current, ever watchful for some anomaly of fluid dynamics to turn cargo and craft sideways, or glide swiftly and lightly down river... which would, were I captain, absolutely scare the crap outta me. I suspect every captain has a chronically knotted stomach... which reminds me of something heard in an unsavory Dallas bar, "Show me a brave man, and I'll show you a man with no imagination".
Couldn't catch the pusher's name, heading north with a few tons of LNG... A part of me wishes to give that adventure a try... but another part of me, the lazy, comfortable part, imagines what toes feel like after standing hours on a steel deck covered with ice... but then, that's where stories come from...
The vessel GM 13502 (IMO: 9328871 ) is a Non Propelled Barge built in 2006 (15 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Unknown.
Fuminous,
The US flag is displayed on the port (left) spreader when foreign vessels visit the US, the owners or country flag is flown from the starboard (right) spreader...
