Several years ago I had some free software that would go through your computer and extract all the codes for purchased software that you owned and put them into one file.
I'm now looking at replacing my aged laptop and I'd like to have the codes handy.
Does anyone remember or use such software. I guess there must be more than one.
Thanks.

You may also wish to consider program transfer software - such as EaseUS Todo PCTrans; or PCMover by Laplink. These not only automate transferring the software so you don't have to sit around reinstalling everything, but they also transfer your program keys and registration to the new computer.

I need one that transfers vista to Windows ten...?
With this recommendation, I just downloaded, installed, and ran Belarc Advisor. The output report has one section called "Software Licenses" which I assume is the key to reinstall such programs...it shows mainly Microsoft programs, and other big name companies, like Adobe, Corel, Sony, Tech Smith, etc. Problem is...this section is only about 10% of the many software I have installed. I do have a ton of shareware, with each having a user name and product key for installing, and such info does not show here.
The section below that named "Software Versions and Usage" shows virtually all the software including shareware, but it only shows the name of the program and the version number. I was hoping that the Belarc Advisor would show everything needed to reinstall both commercial apps as well as shareware, but apparently it does not. Your thoughts?

How does it work? Link 2 computers together by a cable? Bluetooth? Wireless? DVDs/flashdrive?

Last time I used the Laplink product (my company had just upgraded all of us to new laptops), we just connected both computers to the same router, installed the product on both computers, and Laplink PCMover did the rest. I don't know if there is a provision to just connect the 2 computers together with one ethernet cable without using a router inbetween. I'd not recommend using wireless due to it's much lower data speed and throughput compared to hardwired ethernet. You can probably download the instructions for both the EaseUS and the Laplink programs and see which one seems most user friendly and has the most options.
