Adventure in Snowy Idyllwild CA

These images were taken in the San Juancito Mountains on the way up to Idyllwild CA. Idyllwild is a small mountain community near Palm Springs. Our refrigerator said that it was snowing in the mountains so we threw our hiking gear into the car and headed up there. On the way up there, the snow was coming down so hard that it was hard to see at times. As it turned out, it snowed heavily the whole day. Here's a few images from that adventure. The image of the road conditions reminded me of the Stephen King movie, "The Shining".

Boy I really like the frozen pond shot. On the way to and from some of the surrounding areas, driving often with the compass in my head and an open mind, I have enjoyed similar scenery, but never in the winter, so its a real departure from my memories of this region, to seeing your images. I do remember once seeing some dusting of snow at the very upper elevations while pondering my surroundings from Keys View.

I was out at Joshua Tree just after the previous storm that came thru SoCal. It laid down a good layer of snow even at the lower altitudes around Hidden Valley and Jumbo Rocks area. It doesn't snow out there very often but it did for this trip. I'll post a few pics of a snowy Joshua Tree next.

Came down from Alaska with my grandmother and started the 1st grade in Idyllwild in 1945. The snow is all too familiar. The school in Idyllwild was pretty advanced, they were introducing us to skiing by the 3rd grade.
Later, back in Alaska was on the ski patrol in Girdwood where I spent almost 40 years. Had enough of snow by 2013 and moved to Pardise, CA.
