Ground Beetle..??

This is one of my preserved little beetles that I staged for a focus stacking session. I don't know what species it is nor do I know if it is an adult so any help identifying it would be appreciated. It's about 3/8-inch in length.

Could be a checkered beetle. Something like this: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1185213/bgimage The color pattern on the elytra is a bit variable.

Thanks, Mark..! I believe that to be exactly what it is. Some may believe that I have a checkered past and now I have a Checkered Beetle.

Very nice photos. I was told some time ago that if it have wings then it is an adult but there may be exceptions

Thanks ever so much. I was looking for something to fill my time after retirement when I found that there was an entire world around me that I could see in new ways and then share it with others here.

Thanks, Tinusbum. Of course what I do is worlds away from the skills required to take magnified images of live subjects in the field.
