My father in law was a doctor. His philosophy was if one thing doesnt get you any thing will. He adopted that after having two heart attacks and was convinced the next one would do him in. He died of cancer.

My dad and all his siblings developed macural degeneration later in life. I'm now later in life so I'm starting to worry. Best of luck.

EYLEA is a treatment option you may want to look into. It can stabilize macular degeneration for up to 4 years in some people.

My left eye developed Macular Degeneration (MD) in 2003 and 3 injections stabilized the MD but my central vision was impaired. In 2007 I developed (MD) in my right eye and fortunately new drugs stabilized my vision with damage to part of my peripheral vision only. For the past 13 years I receive an injection in each eye every month. Medicare has covered it all to the tune of close to $1,000,000.
My present condition is 20/25 in my right eye and 20/200 in my left eye. While this sounds bad, the brain compensates and the result is what I classify as 90% vision. Although both eyes are defective, the overlap with what you see with each eye provides the brain with a 90% (in my case) real picture. It doesn't affect my driving or any other activity.
The worst thing you can do at age 65+ is to NOT test your vision yourself. The AMSLER GRID is on line. Print it and test yourself once per month. It is a 10 second test. AMD can be treated successfully if caught in time. If I had tested myself in 2003 my left eye would be 20/30 instead of 20/200.

I’m a victim of macular degeneration myself. My right eye is far worse than my left at present. Since I normally shoot through the view finder with my right eye, I’m now training myself to use my left eye with the view finder. I could probably use live view but my shots are much more steady using the view finder. I’m wondering how much longer I’ll be able to pursue this wonderful hobby of photography.
