Nikon D750 shutter

For the third time in 15 months, the shutter on my D750 has broken/malfunctioned. All three times it was on a tripod shooting a time-lapse, no impact damage, jarring, etc. The two previous times, it was repaired by an independent shop and I am not sure where they got the replacement parts from. There are repair firms that still advertise themselves as authorized Nikon repair services but I thought Nikon had shut them down by not selling them parts. Is the Nikon facility in Melville, New York my best choice (their California service center is closed due to Covid)? I don't expect turnaround to be quick given the times.

I recently sent my Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom in through the original dealer for warranty repairs. The unit was repaired and returned in just under 3 weeks. If the camera is still under warranty, I'd definitely use the Nikon repair facility. Sounds like your D750 is no longer under warranty...good luck. jak

Melville is the place to send it, provided it is not a grey market camera.

No longer under warranty, so it is on my dime.

No, it's a USA market camera.

Shutter repair is usually nothing more than a band aid. Better to have it replaced. It's easy to contact Nikon or independent repair technicians to determine the availability of a replacement shutter. Posting such a question here is the last thing I would have thought of!

I send to Melville on a regular basis. I believe your mistake was not going to Nikon the first time this happened. You might want to call Nikon (it should have been your first option, I believe your repair firm did not do you any favors) 1-800-645-6687

I had the same issue but Nikon fixed it under warranty and and no longer have the problem. I will say (I wish I could remember the exact settings) but I went years without ever experiencing it. Then it would only happen with one or two specific settings with the shutter speed and aperture. I would work fine with any other setting. So pay attention to the setting when it happens and see if you can work around it for now. Not a great solution but I was photographing a football game at the time and changed the settings for the remainder of the game and all worked. I tried the same setting the next day and it failed. Changed the settings and no issue. Just a thought.

Yes on Melville, and in December I had a D800 refurbished after a drop, and it was around 12 days, including transit both ways.I suspect the turnaround will be quicker now that USPS is getting better.

Had to replace the shutter in my D750 twice. I bought it in 2015. Nikon did the work both times.
