Tamron 150-600 and 4" filter system suggestion reqested

I have both the Tamron 150-600 and several 4" (100mm) filter holders. When I put the 95mm ring on the lens there is no space to slide the filter on. If I put the ring on the filter first then when trying to screw it on the lens the threads won't reach the lens. I do have several 95mm rings but none have the inside threads to connect 2 together. Try as I might I can't find a 95mm regular filter ring (such as a UV filter) with no glass to act as a spacer. So if I purchase a regular filter I could pop out the glass which would give me more clearance from the lens front.

My question, do you have any other ideas? or hope of hopes, does someone have a busted 95mm filter they could part with?

On my Lee Filter system, the adapter ring screws onto the lens first, and the filter holder attaches by spring loaded clamp to the adapter (which has a raised lip).

I do not use any filters with my 150-600.......So I understand correctly (and to help you in the search) - you want to go from 95mm via step-up to 100mm, or just a taller 95 ring (or stacked 95's) for extra reach/clearance, is that correct?

I would consider dedicating a filter holder to that lens by using epoxy cement to attach it to the threaded adapter ring. You won’t be able to unscrew this combination later, of course.

Screw the ring on the lens and make a mark to indicate ‘up’. Remove the ring, glue it on the filter holder so that the ‘up’ mark aligns with the slot you for inserting the filters.

If you want to test your setup, use a few drops of hotmelt glue instead of epoxy. That should be strong enough to try mounting the combo a few times, but if the extension is still mot enough for the threads to catch, a sharp blow or will break the glue bond and let you try again with an added spacer.

If you need more separation, temporarily attach three small spacers evenly spaced around the perimeter. Cardboard or bits of wire are fine.

To avoid a mess. Use masking tape to prevent from leaking away from where you want it. Use a 5 minute epoxy and mix small batches. Only glue a portion of the circumference at a time. Maybe just an inch long. Wait until the epoxy takes a soft set, and is no longer runny ( about 10 minutes) before before gluing a new portion on the opposite side. After those are set you can remove your spacers and finish the gluing, working still in small sections.

In a day that will be very hard and durable.

If you are going to "glue" to anything, make it a clear 95mm filter (or step up ring, or filter missing the glass, LENS CAP, hood, etc.), no glue to the lens please, that would definitely hurt long term value. Otherwise you get a DIY "F" grade..........

Thank you for all the suggestions. A wonderful hogger is sending me 95mm filters that they don't use anymore and I will pop out the glass to get the separation needed.

Also, I would never use glue, tape yes but not glue.
