The BEST way to drive on it is to drive slowly. And don't make ANY quick maneuvers. Four wheel drive will NOT save you when the roads are slick.

Agree with driving slower and no quick motions, however where I live 4 wheel drive is a lifesaver. That does not mean you can drive faster. I hate studded tires because of the unnecessary damage to the roads. As kids we went to a big parking lot of the local college and practiced starting a skid and recovering. Later on a big lake covered with ice. No thrill like going 40 mph, then jamming on the brakes and once they are locked up turn the wheel to the extreme left or right. The rig (always drove 4x4 pickups) would keep the direction per the laws of physics. Then when you released the brakes you’d start spinning like a top in the same direction you were heading before the brakes were locked up. I would murder my kids if they admitted to doing this.

Reminds me of years ago when I used to drive by a wooded area to and from work. There was a dirt road, mostly clay, through the woods. One day on my way home I saw a wrecker on the edge of the road, winch line going off down that road. The light turned red and I happened to be where I could see that that winch line was attached to another wrecker with its winch line going off even deeper into the woods. I couldn't see the end of that line but would guess it was attached to a 4WD the owner of which thought that 4WD was magic.
