While I have a few lenses that are a bit sharper overall, none of them provides the flexibility of the 15-85 range.

....................... With its 15 mm at the wide end, I rarely find I have need to use my Canon EFs 10-18 mm ultra wide lens.

Getting back to the OP's original question, I would recommend the Canon 10-18 mm if she would rather capture a single ultra wide angle image instead of stitching a pano together.

Stitching panos is cool for stationary subjects. The 10-18 might be acquired with landscapes in mind, but unlike stitching it invites the user to use it in crowds and other active situations. It also makes great video (STM is quiet).

The 10-18 inspires. I do recommend increased use of live view for static scenes. SLR finders can be deceptive with ultra wides. Viewing on the rear panel is more revealing of odd things that occur with extreme wide angle foreshortening and angle of view.

Although I generally shoot wildlife, I’ve recently been wishing I had a wide-angle lens. The closest I have now is my EFS 15 - 85mm. I know nothing about wide-angle lens. For example, will my field of vision be greater with a lens of the same mm but that bills itself as a wide angle? About the only thing I know for sure is that I don’t want a fisheye.
I plan to use the lens primarily for landscapes.
Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

With the holidays depleting the stock of camera companies, keep the following link bookmarked and check it often. It is the link for Canon refurbished lenses. Many of us on UHH buy refurbished and Canon, in my opinion, offers the best bang for your buck because you'll get a one-year warranty on ANYTHING marked refurbished. Some have suggested the 10-18 lens but, unfortunately, it is out of stock in the refurbished ones. That's why you should bookmark it and keep checking back often. However, the difference in cost between refurbished and new is only $60. Here are the links:

I use the 10-18mm canon and it is also an STM lens for Video, it works great and is not expensive.

OK, on your APS-C camera, your lens has an effective field of view of 24mm to 136 mm. So, my favorite all time landscape lens is my Nikon 16-35 mm lens.
To get this wide open you will need at least a APS-C lens of 10 mm.
I am recommending the following lens for you. It is only $299.00 which is a good price for a Canon lens. And it would give you an effective field of view of 16-28.8 mm.

I like foreground and background when shooting landscape, below is an example of a 16 mm coverage showing foreground and background. The image is of a unique light house in Maine.

The EFS 10-22 is a wonderful lens, I found it to be equivalent in image quality to the EF 17-40 f/4L. Personally, I'd recommend the IS-enabled EFS 10-18. Either is a great choice.

I have that Canon 10-18; it's excellent.

Hello again Sally D:

He said “Steady on, stay the course”.

I’m guessing that you’ve never had a full frame camera. If correct then you should just ignore the numeric “snow job” that fills much of that post.

Maybe you had an SLR film camera ? Thaz the same format as a digital “full frame”. Regardless, none of those lens equivalency numbers really matter for your current camera’s format.

You already have a wide angle lens! What can't you do with it at the 15 mm setting? I wonder how much more "wide angle " you can get with a 10mm & if you would be happy spending the money for it if it is not that much more wide? Can a more knowledgeable person answer that?

I would look at the tokina 11-20 f/2.8. Sharp and functions in low light.

Definitely yes. It’s reasonably simple.

But why repost the page for you alone ? Just rewind waaaaaaay back to the top of the page and start reading.

Wise to get the 10-18. 10-22 creates redundancy (you've already got the 22 covered with your 15-85), and the 10-22 costs $130 more than the 10-18.

While a 5mm difference in focal length might not seem like much, going from 15mm to 10mm your horizontal angle of view goes from 73° to 96°, increasing it by almost 1/3. That’s a considerable difference.
