Anyone Using Filter Forge?

I'm using Filter Forge on a 30-day trial basis. It's been around a long time, and one of their claims to fame is a library of about 14,000 filters created by their user community. I installed it because I thought it could prove useful for a project I'm considering. It can create sketches, oil paintings, watercolors, engravings, etc. from photos. It can also create interesting textures and abstracts. However, my take is that the photo to art capabilities aren't quite up to what some other software can produce. I'm having trouble justifying spending $79 on it - I think I'd soon lose interest. Is anybody using it? How do you like it? What are you producing with it?

If this a plug-in for PS CC or other programs, trust me there are ways to replace any filter that can mimic anything. Save your $$$ and enjoy christmas with a few select friends like this guy here, they just will not be as posh as his......

I agree with my esteemed collegue, Rongn....

Plugins are a lazy, and monetary, way to do what anyone could do on their own with Ps.

I am flattered by your "esteemed collegue" but quite frankly, the moment I reach your level of expertise I will let you know. Trouble is it is not going to happen tomorrow or even the next day...

Filter Forge is much more than a simple plug in for PS. It is a huge collection of filters that can be used to transform your images or just work as backgrounds to your images. It can do much more than PS can on its own, so don't get discouraged by the comments of the naysayers. It takes an imaginary way of transforming your images and can give you a whole new way of working on your photos. If you use it to its full potential, $79 is cheap.

I have had it for a while but to be honest have rarely found much use for it, and when i did use it it seemed not very slick. So now it's another piece of software i have but don't use

That's my sense, too.

I have an older version of Filter Forge that I used for a commercial project. It was not something I use everyday nor do I now. For what it does and the filters/effects that you can apply it is really outstanding. I could justify using it if the effect I wanted would take a lot of PP or probably beyond my ability to do it at all. I don't want to spend a lot of time doing that, especially if I am doing it for a client, because time is money. I never upgraded because it's not a part of my normal workflow. It is a great source of textures and materials for layering if you do that type of work.
