If I put one of my own sky's into Adobe Sky Replacement to use what should I do to the image before I insert it? Do normal adjustments I would ordinarily do, including sharpening? I always shoot RAW(L) but of course that could be changed. Any suggestions will help.

For me sky replacement is the last thing I do before final sharping (if necessary).

Same here. But what I am wondering is what I should do to the image before I put it in the sky replacement area. Normal processing or wait until it is in the photo and then adjust?

If you can top this, you’re in the sky replacement biz. Very best I’ve seen since this topic exploded:

I do everything else first.

I replace the sky first, then adjust photo so that the sky lighting matches to the photo. Then any other processing and the last is sharpening in Topaz Sharpen.

The new sky will be in its own masked layer if I recall correctly, so you should be able to adjust it anytime. but if you overdo it before using it you might have a hard time reversing whatever change you made.

A bit of PM discussion leads to my asking this question. When you look at the attached photo, what do you see there ?

Acoarst I already know what’s there, but perhaps it’s less clear than I’d expected for other eyes. So I’m left to ask of you:

“What is this a photo of ? What do YOU see when you look at it ? What kind of scene was in front of the camera ?”

Thanks a bunch and a half !

I do everything else first, and insert the sky last unless it’s a black and white. You have to insert the sky before you do the conversion. Otherwise, you’ll have a black and white photo with color sky.

Sky replacement is the last thing I do. By now I know what happens to my subject before using sky replacement. So I do my due diligence before sky replacement. Red Shoulder calling it's mate.

Is the OP asking about how to process his own sky images before adding them to the PS Sky Replacement module’s gallery?

Yes, that's his question. And had only one answer so far, from @bleirer

I don't use the sky replacement in PS. I prefer to go to "Select" -> "Sky" and it usually makes a good selection of the sky. If necessary I retouch the selection. Then new layer with mask, and the old sky disappears. Then I embedded my own sky as a smart object. With this I can adjust the sky and the foreground separately, sharpen, adjust the light, etc.

Yesterday I made a replacement of the sky in an old photograph. Sky of Uruguay 2020 and the foreground known to all
