Don't be upset Jimyo65,
I should have said "humming bird dead centre in the frame.

A photo of any everyday object can captivate, but it
does need to be done imaginatively.

Ditto: "A photo of any everyday object can captivate, but it does need to be done imaginatively." The range of photographic technique comes into play under this general rule. Just adding a touch of fill flash can reveal potential, and the same for adjusting perspective and composition.

Life is like photography, when you try to use math to explain art, you're just boring everyone.

Agree. Photography functions as a visual medium of human expression.

That said, others have noted a second way to determine visual balance within the photographic frame, using the Fibonacci spiral. Check it out here:

For my part, I start with the Rule of Thirds and then adjust to eye from there.

That list would include most travel snapshots.
The question the same as what makes great art. Often, at least in modern art, one, some or almost all the elements in your list are violated.
It’s like pornography, I know it when I see it.

I try to create images that evoke emotional resonance. It would seem I'm referring to music, not photography, but what I mean is a fullness of feeling. Otherwise, I might be after interest in various linear configurations in the frame, or the emphasis of a subject in the background, or what have you, but it's especially low-light photos, often with a color tone theme, like green or gold, that draw me immediately into the frame as a whole: awe.

That's true.
