I reckon you might be afraid of opening the package because whatโ€™s happened has made you afraid that your drone could find itself an orphan because of shifting policies. I say, damn the regulators, and full speed ahead. Enjoy flying your new drone. I wish I had one myself.

Thank you.

I haven't yet. The retailer allows returns to Feb 1. Rather than fly it and give up, I'm doing homework. If I return it, it will be in the sealed box they sent to me.

Ah ha I understand now, I was commenting on peoples belief that ones photos taken by a drone will be transmitted to china, because they are made up of chinese parts and software etc, well not so, now if one downloads the photos to your computer and if one stores them off site or sends to other web sites then all bets are off.

I started this topic. I've wanted a drone since they first showed up. I read a headline last week that said the Department of Commerce put DJI on a list. I wrongly assumed that it meant that DJI drones would become hard to get.

A couple months ago DJI released a very small, light weight model that shoots RAW photos, 4K video and will even accommodate HDR! The priced it for consumers.

I used the Department of Commerce action as an excuse to place an order.

My assumptions are WRONG. There is not a list or action to restrict DJI from selling their products. The list was expanded to include companies in China where US companies have to go through extra licensing procedures before selling to China's companies that are on the list.

An example given was an infrared sensor. If DJI had been using a infrared sensor from a US company, they would have to find a different source if the US company can't get clearance from the Dept of Commerce. Since DJI has started making their own infrared sensors, the flow of their products to the US will not be effected.
