Over the years I have taken a few pictures that I think at least approach being art. I sometimes think about giving framed copies as gifts (I've shared most of the pics that would be candidates on this forum) but then I start to wonder if that isn't just ego run amok. Does anyone else have a similar quandary.

I have one thought on this to ponder Axiesdad. I am an artist and used to oil paint. One friend kept asked for a painting. I gave her a painting and hadn't seen her in years. I later called and asked if we could visit her and she agreed. We stayed in her bedroom and the 1st thing I saw was it laying on the floor and the frame was broken so I quietly picked it up and put it in my car. I thought that's certainly a way of showing appreciation for a FREE gift.

Since that experience of years ago I have always charged something for paintings EVEN my friends and family. I learned from friends who had dogs that they would never give a pet to a friend or anyone else because when they want to get rid of it they hesitate if they paid for it. If it was free they have no hesitation to give it away. Later, I sold it too someone else.

Just a hint for those who want to give things away.

Curious - Does the story end there? How did the frame get broken? Was the painting accidentally dropped and the frame broken and not repaired yet?

As has been said, "it is the thought that counts". I have given a few photos as gifts. Most of the time it was because they noted the photo and like it enough to want a copy. On the recent retirement of my personal physician, I gave him a 16" x 20" in metal print of a Denali photo taken in 2017. He hung it in his living room. I was honored to say the least. As I continue to improve my photography I would hope to give even more.

Funny thing you mentioned this. This Christmas I thought I would give my children a photo for a stocking stuffer.
Well, not quit. I printed sereral on self adhesive Vinyl, and mounted them on wooden placques. I sprayed them with a clear Deco Art sealer and finisher. They came out very nicely. The photos below were taken with my phone and sent to the pc and are not reproduced very well. Sorry about that.
I does make a very nice thoughtful gift.

After attaching, did you wait for the upload acknowledgement and preview before clicking "Send"?
Sometimes it takes a few moments.

I don't have any idea how it was broken. It happened before we were there, but it was broken without any thought of fixing it. If I had a piece of anything that was 'treasured' I would have picked it up to repair later. Especially when someone is going to stay overnight.

She was a person of class and had the sense of taste. Regardless of the details I learned a lesson on giving.
