On Dec. 21, Jupiter and Saturn will cross paths in the night’s sky, and they will appear to shine together as one body. Thus appearing as the Star of Bethlehem - an event that hasn't happened in nearly eight centuries. If it actually happens, I definitely want to capture it. But being an amature photographer, I'll probably blow it with my settings. So would appreciate suggestions for settings on my Canon EOS Rebel T2i that will result in a great photo.

I'm going to watch this too, my choice of locations might still be snow bound Monday night, oh well.

I wonder how many people are expecting huge radiant white light beams in four directions.

Well, if there are huge radiant white light beams in four directions, I sure would like to capture them on camera. If only I was savvy enough to know the correct settings; any suggestions?

They should be out there now, just not in conjunction(?).
See what shooting them over the next couple of days yields for you.
Experiment.

Maybe rgrenaderphoto can assist you - https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-678479-1.html#11837755.

Was there such a conjunction when Jesus was born?

There has been lots of debate about this between astronomers an theologians. There apparently was something like this around that time, give or take a few years. Also we don't use the same calendar today. So, we will probably never know for sure. The star of Bethlehem was in the East, this one is in the Southwest sky. It should look pretty cool. Hoping for clear skies.

If you want to capture them with any detail, you'll need lots of focal length, at least 1,000mm, but if you want a wide field with landscape included, pick a lens less than 100mm (generally speaking) and then they will appear as a brighter star.
