You’ll save $2400 but you’ll give up a better lens. How about considering composition etc instead lens quality. If you’ve got the money go ahead and get the better one. You can always get at leastt 80% back if you don’t like it. Have fun!

What will I be sacrificing if I buy the Canon RF 85mm F/2 IS STM for $599 instead of the RF F1/2 L USM DS lens for almost $3000?

Isn't the RF 85mm F2 a macro lens?

One time when my phone battery died I hadda whip out the Superior Lens. All of a sudden regular peeps, and even their regular dogs, decided to be Directors of Photography and Art Directors. Superior Lenses have superior outreach.

How often will you need that extra stop-and-a-half? How long before the speed/ bokeh from the extra stop sells enough more photos to pay for the extra $2400.00?

If you shoot portraits and want the best...there is a big difference between the two.
The more expensive one will give you the best bokeh...hands down.
It has better multi-coating and fluorine thrown in as well, to keep the dust down.
You usually get what you pay for...usually.

He doesn't know, that is why he is asking. If he gets the cheaper lens and 6 months from now realizes there is something that he didn't think of ...

Getting what you pay for: If 1.5 stops is worth $2400, and since an 85/1.8 costs about $350, then an 85/2.8 should cost negative $2000. You order one and pay nothing, and then it arrives with $2000 packed in the box. I’d order at least a couple dozen on that basis.

I looked at both specs...big difference in ...quality.
Yes, it's more. But it will outperform the cheaper one...easily.
Depends on how far you want to take the photography.

Mostly prestige .....and heavier wallet - unless you are making GOOD money in the high end portrait market or have the aspiration and talent for it.

I take my photography waaay past the specs that you’ve looked at. Therefore “outperforming” is of no consequence. Print those specs three feet wide and frame them.

You'll be sacrificing the opportunity to spend another $2400...

You're probably one of those people that takes pictures with your camera.

How do you know if the final print is any good if you don't know the specs of the camera and lens?
