I own both and the only features I use on the M3 are hand held high resolution mode and live ND, otherwise the M2 still suits my needs.

I currently have an Olympus M1 Markii and was thinking of upgrading to the Mark iii (about $1,400)

With the changes at Olympus, I was thinking that maybe i should be looking at a different brand that
would accept my current Oly lenses (about 10 lenses)

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated

thank you in advance

As long as Panasonic continues to exist, both Panasonic and Olympus users feel fairly safe. I suspect Olympus will survive also much to the delight of Panasonic and Olympus owners for more choices in lenses. And if a new sensor comes out in the 24mp/25mp range, with characteristics similar to their 20mp sensor, I think both Panasonic and Olympus will survive better that the full frame cameras will. And if Olympus does disappear, it will be sometime in the much further future. No reason to worry right now.

Those olys Omd Em1 mii's are junk. Please package it up and send to me for disposal! Joking aside, I am a dedicated Oly user (and actually like their menus). I think I may go the Em1 miii route. I like the built in ND feature and a few other things. Why they put the menu button on the other side of the back of the camera is a mystery. And why they got rid of the auto mode is a bit off (I use manual and aperture mostly but once in a while a sudden thing happens and I put it in auto). I think if I had an Mii, I might just hang in there to see if Oly / JIP or whatever they are called this week, come up with a better sensor.

Sony is supposedly the source of 20MP sensors in the Olympus and Panasonic Micro 4/3 cameras. And Sony is reported to have a 47MP 4/3 sensor in the works, but so far, it's flagged for industrial uses such as surveillance equipment.

Pushing the envelope forward on m43 sensor design for high quality video and photography may be a slow process. The existing 20MP sensor has about the same sensel pitch as an 80MP full frame sensor would have. Cramming more sensels into the same dimensions will only reduce signal to noise ratio. The reduced dynamic range may be "offset" with some electronic processing... We'll see.
