The short-eared owls in our area are not at all cooperative with respect to coming out in good light or any light for that matter. This owl only seems to come out at 5:15 or later in our area of northeast Ohio. I am using a Nikon D500, Nikkor 200-500 lens, f/5.6, 1/15 second, autoISO (2200-4500). It was so dark that I couldn't tell whether its head was turned toward me or away at times.

Wow! Especially at 1/15 second! Those are beautiful shots and a great combo of lens and body.

Numbers two and five are the best. Great captures! Perhaps a little more dramatic with some cropping?

Certainly looks like the camera did. Handled the ISO pretty well also. Nice work.

To pull off a shot like #2 (the eyes are incredible), under those conditions, is very impressive. Gary

Is this what you had in mind by cropping more? I used Topaz Gigapixel AI to gain some resolution.
