Type Tool

I am trying to learn the type tool in PS CC and having a very bad day. I want to add text to a photo. The photo is ready and I click on the T. Lorem Ipsum comes up with a line thru it. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of that line either in the lorem ipsum or any text I type. What am I doing wrong?

When you select the Type tool, check the bar that appears on top with the options for each tool. You probably have an icon that is a T with the horizontal line and it´s active. Click to disable.

Or check this page from Adobe:

Although it looks to be for a very old version, you may be able to extrapolate to your current one.

EDIT: This is a much newer version and it probably will show you where to disable it:

(sorry but I don't have PS CC at hand at the moment)

When you have clicked on the Type tool and you get your type box with Lorem Ipsum shown, click on Window at the top and a drop down menu will show. Click on Character and the type tool properties box will show on your right hand side. Choose from the menu how you want your text to appear (yours seems to be set at the far right as per your description).

Hope this helps,
Alan

When I select the type tool and click somewhere I get the lorem ipsum stuff where I clicked. It is on a new layer. The toolbar at the top of the window shows the options available. Without doing anything else, starting to type gets rid of the filler and my text starts to appear. If you do something else, click on the lorem ipsum to get started again.

I find that frequently the type tool comes up set to white text. When I type something on a white background I get nothing.
Selecting the text (ctrl-A in Windows) and editing the color fixes it without having to retype anything. You can also change the font or font size that way.

The issue of the OP is that the "strike-through" option for text is on by default in PS. So any text typed ends up being stroked through

Yes, I see that now after mis-reading the post. On my version of PS the strike-through is not the default setting. However, it is persistent. If I turn on the strikethrough setting and shut down PS, the next time I open PS the strikethrough setting is still active.

Nice thing about it is that it is in its own layer and the type can be repeatedly changed in all ways until you have to rasterize it for some reason.

Yes, I bet that the cause here was an accidental shortcut press that turn on strikethrough. And kept active from then on.
Hope he was able to solve it
