Delkin CFexpress card on D500

Just in case anyone is curious, the Delkin branded 64gb CFexpress card works just fine on the D500 after the firmware update. It is NOT on the tested and approved list of cards for the D500, but it works as it should.

Just in case you're thinking about it.

A new card reader will be required as far as I can tell.

What I would like to know is if we are getting the speeds CF cards advertise on the D500??

Thanks for letting us know it works though!

Anybody having a problem should check with Nikon. I had a problem for a short time but they walked me through the process. I did have a problem with a Sony card reader though, ended up buying a Delkin brand one and it works fine, both on my Delkin and Nikon branded cards.

You won’t get any faster speeds on a D500 than you would with an XQD card. The card itself might be faster, but either one is faster than the camera, which is the limiting factor.

Certainly not a deal breaker.

What I'm hoping for is maybe a little competitiveness to drive the prices of the cards down a bit.

Nikon is pretty tight lipped regarding the write speeds of their cameras, so that begs the question of whether or not the software fix will include boosting the ability to empty the buffer more quickly. Haha!

I don’t know about the D850 but I never have buffer problems with the D500.

I have never had issues with either, but some like to hold the button down!

My point was that the cameras are likely not capable of writing the max stated capabilities.
