Out to buy some diesel, fill the truck, and grab a couple of basic items. These along the way. First couple, my ancient (refurbed) 3/4 Ton Scottsdale was still running - last three I shut it down. Maybe a difference. D7200 Af Nikkor 200-500 5.6 E ED hand held

Nice shots. They used to be common 50 miles from here. Now houses are common and Pronghorns have moved on.

Nice shots. Most of my family is in New Mexico and we see a lot of them out there on the plains. The drought they are having out there may change that, at least short term.

Uh huh. Pronghorn pop up here and there in places I sometimes go, but they're generally a quarter mile or more off. Sometimes --rarely, actually-- I'm "ready" with a long lens already attached, but half the time its probably not worth the bother or the effort to turn the key and shut the Jeep down. But I do manage the 'presence of mind' to open the driver's side window and shoot away before they bolt. Bottom line is, typically: with the Jeep running - there's motion blur; with the Jeep shut down, good and sharp (despite the 'lopes being a whole lot further away than whatever lens, or whatever potential cropping is going to do, to much to rectify the situation). And then, of course, they're gone.

It looks like you got their attention. Nice shots.

Thanks! They go where the want out here, haven't seen them on my land or south of the Musselshell river, at least till you get past the Bull Mountains into the high plains. They like it on the big flats. As with deer and elk, still plenty.

Thank you Chief! We haven't had a lot of precip, but the creeks are still high, not the river - hand of man, I suspect.

They aren't real shy here - some moved when I stopped, but most unimpressed. 100- 200 yards. In the less settled areas, just as you have experienced - stop and they move off fast. I do agree on the engine blur.

After the first couple of shots, I whistle - works for all the ungulates I've come across. Thank you.
