Anyone see the news that the DOJ has been investigating a bribery for pardons scheme since late August? Heavily redacted court documents were just released with the names of the individuals involved redacted.

I saw the news. Trump is a thug, and something stinks.

Any president has the right to pardon anyone for any reason at any time. Past presidents have pardoned far more dangerous people. Nixon was pardoned before any charges were even brought. The pardon was granted before any crime was officially charged. He 3was not even impeached

All true except it is not “ for any reason “ . It is only for federal issues not state or local crimes.

Few Presidents have been faced with a decision to discuss pardoning personal lawyers and family members when leaving office.
Bu, it happens--I guess.

Maybe, someone should tell Fat Donny that he'll need to specify the crimes he's pardoning these miscreants for.
That should make for some interesting reading.

A preemptive pardon is akin to a "Get out of Jail Free Card".

According to Wikipedia, the Supreme Court has never ruled on the legality of pardons such as Nixon received or might happen in Trump World.

Definitely only federal crimes are within the scope of a presidential pardon, however.

With the exception of Ford's pardon of Nixon, I do not know of any pardon that was issued before a federal charge was filed. The Nixon pardon is an exception; Ford acted in the best interests of the country. It seems to me that presumptive pardons essentially puts the pardoned above the law. I think it would be sleazy in the extreme to grant presumptive pardons to Rudy and the kids.

His own bar for "sleezy and extreme" is already set very, very low.
