I am going to buy a new computer...I think...I hope
With the current shortage of laptop computers I may have to wait.
Currently I have a Lenovo laptop that is 5 years old that I do both photo and video editing on. It has 8gb memory, 1tb ssd drive that I installed last year, the memory cannot be upgraded. The graphics is integrated. It is an i7
All of my photo and video editing is done on this computer.
I am only considering Lenovo, dell and hp at this time. Do you see these as a good choice? What other brand would you consider?
I believe a computer with an i7, 1tb ssd, dedicated graphics with at least 4gb memory, 16gb memory and wifi6 would be good specs. I think I want a touch screen but I could do without if a good laptop with all the other specs would work for me.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Chuck
Specs seem adequate. Not sure why the brand matters. I would be looking for adequate ports and a screen with a wide viewing angle.

www.xoticpc.com - has laptops that will meet or exceed your spec. Many can be user upgraded to 64gb, and have three drive bays - 2 m.2 slots and one or more 2.5" SATA III bay.
You have done well with Lenovo. I had a plastic one that would flex if not moved with two hands - and it self-disconnected a ribbon cable.
Now I stay with Toshiba and a metal frame.
I recently got Micro Center's store brand laptop. i7 processor, 32GB memory, 2 TB SSD, graphics card with additional 8GB memory, all for a little over $1400. In stock.
It's funny, but I was just thinking of that. Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking for it.
I don't think anyone was ever sorry that he bought more computer than he actually needed. Remember when a 10MB hard drive was sufficient?

And that drive cost me $900 at 47th St Photo, and it was the cheapest one around. It was a Microscience drive, if I remember correctly. It stopped working after 5 months, and 47th St replaced it with a 20 mb for free.

Jerry, my first computer back in 1989 came with 512kb memory that I paid $100 to upgrade to 640kb. Yes that is kilobytes. 2 bays with 5 1/2” floppy drives that you could upgrade one of the drives to a 10 megabyte drive for $200 or to a 20 megabyte for $300. I opted for the 20 megabyte and thought I would never run out of storage space. A b&w monitor.
It progressed from there

Charlie, have you considered refurbished computers? My quite adequate desktop computer and two laptops are all refurbs. I have bought refurbished with very good results and for less money than for new. Most refurbs actually have an advantage over 'new' since it's been inspected originally, something found 'needing' and that repaired.... and most are guaranteed. I buy from TIGERDIRECT.COM and give them 5 stars for service. Something you may want to consider.
God Bless,
