LR 6 Auto File Naming

One of the last times that Microsoft updated my Windows 10, it messed up the file naming protocol. I had it set to automatically number each export (Export with Previous) so that I would create a name for the image and LR would automatically add the next number.
Since the update, I can’t get it to do it anymore. I used every choice in the drop down menu but nothing works.

Any help would be appreciated.

In the File Naming section of the Export dialog, set up a new preset based on "custom settings" in the Rename drop-down box. Go in and <Edit> the custom settings and use a Sequence number. I've selected a format with leading zeros to force the correct sort-order for a Preset that formats images to my digital frame, now totaling more than 10,000 images. Hence, my format template is: {Sequence # (00001)}

Use the various drop-downs in the template editor to find / select / customize the options. And again, test the processing until satisfied and save as a User Export Preset so you can re-run on demand without having to reconfigure / remember the settings.

This won't help much, but...

It's exactly why I never let Lightroom handle downloads, automatically create folders, automatically rename files or apply many other things automatically during import.

I had it all set up, then an update wiped out my settings and caused all sorts of things to get messed up. It was a real pain to go back and correct it all.

Now I don't use Lightroom to download images, create my own folders, keep control over what's done to images during import and rename files myself (only after confirming all files were successfully copied during the download, because it can be a real pain to try to check that after they've been renamed).

I set up a folder to receive the files, use the system browser to copy images from memory card to that folder, then direct LR to import from that folder.

The only Lightroom "automation" I take advantage is adding some copyright info in the EXIF and applying lens corrections during the import.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Thanks for your comeback.
I tried your suggestion yesterday but, for me, it didn't work. Maybe I'll go back and re-try in the next few days.
Actually, it's happened before and I got it working again, but I don't recall having to make my own preset.

For me, that's one of the nicest features of LR. Renaming all the files to the label I create, and renumbering them.
Thanks anyway.
