This image was taken at the Santa Ana Zoo. Many of the birds there have been injured and after recovery unable to be returned to the wild. This was taken with a Nikon D7200 with a 55-300mm at 270mm hand-held.

Looks best in download.

Breathtakingly beautiful, Mike. The feather detail, the subtle lighting and tonal range - exquisite.

Thanks Bill, nothing like your colorful fall images. The original was rather uninteresting, but converting to a low key B&W made the eagle the star of the show.

Thanks for you lovely feedback, Linda. My brother and I have been playing with these low key B&W images recently. I did my first low-key B&W here on a MIYV challenge sometime back. It was a gorilla in a zoo image that I converted to a B&W portrait. Both of us are fascinated by this photographic style in wildlife and portrait photography. We just now need to get better at it.
