For those of you outside the UK, who haven't heard of bubble and squeak. Basically it's just the left over veg. from Sunday's main meal. They really should be mashed up, but we don't bother ourselves. Just heat a little oil, or butter, in a large pan and cook at a fairly high heat until it's slightly scorched and well heated through. Serve with whatever you think may go with it. In the foto it's veggie sausage rolls and baked beans. Really easy, healthy and very tasty. What do you think?

Works on my plate, but the only problem is that I usually eat the leftovers for breakfast... Hate cereal and typical morning foods...

My favorite leftovers for breakfast ? Tacos...........

Yummie !!!!

Very nice food shot. Hoping not to sound picky but the fork bothers me for some reason. Seems to be distracting...to me. It is appetizing!!

I'm glad I posted this, it's aroused some interest. It wasn't meant to be a brilliant foto that's why I didn't worry about the fork, or use a tripod to get more depth. I was hoping that it might make some of you hungry though :-)

It does seem to show the typical delicious quality of English food.

that would not be recognised as "bubble & Squeak" in England

bubble & squeak , consists of potatoes brussel sprouts or other greens mashed together & then fried,

goes well with sausages, or bacon & tomatoes,,,John

Thank You for posting. I found it quite interesting, I raise beef on my farm so not many meals go with out meat.
I am always fascinated by meals prepared in other countries.

"Bubble & squeak" is a real food ? -and here I thought it was a silly name Terry Prachett made up! But it looks more appetizing than my ol dad's hogs head cheese.

Jambo, I did say at the beginning that it should be mashed. It did contain sprouts, potatoes and carrots although you can't see them in the photo.
I forgot to mention that a lot of people give it a very generous sprinkle of vinegar.

Just remembered it was also called a fritter by some people - we used cabbage, potato and Brussels when we could afford them!!

Hmmm.. A reporter asked Gandhi what he thought of English cuisine. Gandhi replied, "I think it would be a very good idea."

Next you'll be extolling the virtues of Vegemite....

Two Fat Ladies cooking show always used cabbage and potatoes in a skillet with oil and sauteed or fried it. So, that is always how I make it. I guess there are different recipes for it. Yum
