Summer in Iceland-54 - Vesturland/West - Final Snaefellsnes moods

My penultimate proper set of this Icelandic adventure brings once more two image of my two trusty Icelandic companions - the fluffy sheep in the pastures and the incomparable, stoically poised Icelandic horses. Then we are into a final set of mood shots, all taken from the guesthouse and farm Sudur-Bar outside of Grundarfjördur on one of my last tempest-tossed evenings in this great land.

This "almost" ends my long-running presentation on this island nation at the edge of two continental plates, belonging to Europe but with one foot in North America, as the slowly drifting movements of the tectonic plates as well as the fire and gases from the many volcanoes and geo-thermal areas evidence. With me you basked in some incredible beautiful weather and temps in the East and North and experienced the foggy, almost mystical qualities of rain clouds and downpours in the South and some parts of the West, and we even managed to experience a whisp of the etheral beauty of the Aurora Borealis. These different and not always clement conditions and moments are what makes a journey unforgettable and I hope you sensed a bit of that impact when looking at these images.

I mentioned above that this post "almost" ends the journey, but I will continue with the tradition I started in my last series on the Arabian Peninsula, and will add tomorrow an ultimate post, as a retrospective on the main highlights we covered during this trip. That final post will contain one picture from each of the 10 episodes with the highest number of visitor writing a comment, thus the selection was determined by you visitors, the actual picture from the daily set is selected by my wife Susan, as I am a notoriously unreliable (emotionally too involved) judge on selecting a single shot out of a pot of many.

Today's shots come from the Surdur-Bar farm which is located just to the east of Grundarfjördur

So many neat shots in your tour. We only had time to do the lower part of the island.
Summer is much greener. Snow & ice on everything in the winter doesn't yield a lot of contrast.
(A couple of things were not open because of the ice and a winter storm when we were there.)
However, still amazing in the winter!

Thank you very much Bill. Iceland is indeed beautiful both in the summer and winter seasons. This trip was in late summer, thus so much of the orange/red grasses all over. We were there this winter in February, and of course had the winter conditions with snow and ice, also beautiful. I would like to go there next time in late spring/early summer to see the real green ambience.

I am presently working on my annual calendar that I make for our families and will include a number of pictures of Iceland - it's the only foreign place we traveled to this year, which is very unusual for us - so the rest of the calendar will be filled with images from around our area here - not being able to travel abroad forced us to have a more in-depth look at this part of north-western Washington state that we have lived in for the past 13 years and in many ways is still unknown to us. I was amazed at the good pictures I could get here - just shows that one does not have to travel far to get solace for the eye and soul! I plan to post those pictures from the calendar here around Christmas time, after my next mini-series.

Have a great Sunday - Joe

Thank you Mike - it was really quite a stormy evening and these cloud scenes were unfolding right in front of my very charming B&B guesthouse, I couldn't help but clicking away and away ... Have a great Sunday - Joe

Thank you Rob - good to see you catching up again and of course I am very happy that you like these mood shots, they were taken on a very stormy evening with constantly changing cloud formations and then the coloration by the setting sun. Have fun catching up and enjoy your Sunday - work comes back again tomorrow! Joe

Thank ou cc for looking in again on the tour - you are right, it definitely was a remarkable trip and I do encourage you to look back on episodes you might not have seen. Since you are a relatively new member at UHH, you may or may not know a few tricks, so, at the risk of telling you the obvious, let me say this: To easily get to my past posts, click on the second link in my daily introductory text, or click on my name (weberwest) beside my avatar, both of these steps will bring you to my profile. In the profile, click on the figure behind "Number of topics created" and the list of my topics will pop up, with the latest post on top. Since I have created a good number of topics, you will have to go to back pages: At the very top at right, click on page 2, and then scoot about half way down, there you will find the first post of this series, they are all numbered. I would normally recommend to start viewing a series at post #1, as the first post always has an introduction including maps. You can easily determine which sets you have already viewed: if the color of the link in the list is blue, you have not seen it, if it is black, then you have already viewed it.

Have fun looking at more of Iceland once again and have a great Sunday - Joe

A very dramatic series with the clouds and light rays. Love them, Joe. And the horses.
