Trump missed an opportunity to show leadership when the virus occurred. Instead of unifying the country with a national strategy, his lied and downplayed the severity of the virus telling the nation it was “under control” and that it would “ disappear”. Trump avoided responsibility, blaming all missteps on the governors, and China. Trump did not create the virus, but he failed the nation when he had no clue what to do about it. A leader would have united the country with truth and unified policy to fight the virus, not divided the country with lies about its severity, masks, fraudulent cures. Trump knew the truth as he told Woodward on February 7, 2020; but mislead the whole nation. That is what Trump will be primarily remembered for in history; and that is why he lost the election. He is not a leader—his con ran out when leadership counted.
