Having attended Wichita University before it became Wichita State University, I remember taking "Philosophy" during my freshman year. Struggling to figure out how to afford to put gas in my 1952 Chevy oil-burner, my professor was lecturing me about guys like Aristotle and Plato. I probably retained less than this Starling in my back yard. Hope you enjoy as I struggle to get better at my bird pictures.

I used to have a 1952 Chevy. Didn't burn an ounce of oil!

Remember when an attendant would come to the car door? For my car, I asked "would you check the gas and fill the oil please?"

Philosophy--I think probably just about anyone could teach that subject. My experience was similar.

Yep. I had a 63 Ford with a 223 ci six cylinder that left a cloud of smoke at every intersection. The gas stations used to have one quart jars of bulk oil at the pumps, two quarts of oil and $3.00 of gas every fill up.

Those were the days, lol!

Just before I started college at Wichita University, I pumped gas at Security Oil in Wichita, KS. We also had the once quart glass jars of bulk oil and when a gas war was happening, gas was $.20/gallon. The bulk oil was so thick that it poured very slowly. What happened to the "good ole days?" (Maybe they had their problems too, like polio!)

I used to have a 1952 Chevy. The shift linkage on the column broke down, so I installed a floor shifter.

I don't remember my '50 Chevy burning oil, but it did have a split manifold and sounded pretty good.

I had a 74 Vega. Carried a case of oil in the back. Went through oil almost as fast as gas. Horrible little car.

My '49 Chevy lived on two gallon cans of reprocessed oil. When I rolled in to my local gas station, he not only came out to pump the gas, but always brought his container of brake fluid....he knew my car!!
At one point, the ignition key was misplaced, so I hooked up an old pull chain light switch to the key switch. Since there was a button on the dash for the starter, I pulled a chain and pushed a button to start. Worked that way until the end!

Used to get used oil from a local filling station for a '49 Studebaker. What it didn't burn it leaked.

To bad about people's experience in college Philosophy. Like most school courses, the instructor makes or breaks the subject. Sounds like you all had a break type instructor
