USAT Dorchester WW2
Thanks so much for posting this fine photo. My Father is buried there and I don't remember seeing that statue. From a displaced Hoosier, thanks again.
Very nice. I will have to go check out that location. Have you shot the Kennedy/King memorial?
A really beautiful scene. Especially when viewing the download.
Great capture and rendering as always! Stay well and keep on sharing.
Same here. It’s on my list, though!
Beautiful image Will - looks great in download view.
This is my first reply, though I have been registered since Sept 2019. I don't know if most UHH ers know the story behind the Dorchester Memorial of 3 Faiths. I knew the main story, and just did a web search for more info. The men of the memorial are known as "the Four Chaplains." Early morning 2/3/1943 - WW2 - the troop ship Dorchester was torpedoed with over 700 men aboard; 230 survived. As the ship sank, the four chaplains (2 Protestant, one Catholic, one Jewish) gave their gloves and life jackets and other assistance to the stressed men on the ship. When the ship went under the waves, the Four were seen standing on the deck praying. Posthumous medals were awarded by Congress in 1944. The web site (looked up under USAT Dorchester) states that there are 5 memorials to the Chaplains across the US.
