I was staying in a small guesthouse in Hofn, Iceland with 4 other photographers. Someone called out that the aurora was starting, I had never seen it in person before. Just out our front door, I turned right and the aurora was directly behind our neighbor's house. This is the photo I took with my D300.

Thanks, Tommy. Right time is the key factor, cloudy skies are a real Aurora killer. It was crystal clear the night I took this photo.

It is awesome, Karin. The fact that it is continuously evolving as you’re shooting it makes it special for a photographer.

Thanks very much, Mike. I was lucky, a minute later and it had moved past the house.
