I like the first two, but the last is kind of scary.

My favorite is the third--it is excellent! I also like the first one, and the second one needs some more vibrance for me. Good work, though, Edie.

Given these (pandemic) times, many might find it safer (or potentially more intimate, or immediate, or convenient?) to shoot that which can we see from our own home space --our yard--, and hope the immediacy or intimacy or convenience of what is 'home' (without being our actual home) will somehow 'click.' For many, something similar may likely be the case in non-Covid times, too, and Sunrise, sunset, 'golden' hour, 'blue hour,' green flash, even what we might perceive as being mid-day 'special' conditions are the draw, and regardless the hour, there's ever the hope that something will somehow 'click.' Most of the time it doesn't, though; most of the time whatever we see as special is unique only to ourselves, so much so that the portrayal may be void of the subliminal form of psychological universality that brings (elicits, foments, inspires) others into that same view, and makes them say 'yes!' Other times, an image might simply be what it is, and it might lack widespread interest.

Who doesn't want to improve? (Don't answer that! some apparently don't; the criteria they hold as being important is.... well..... at best subjectively oriented, and, at worst, seems dictated by a 'look what my camera/lens can do' more than a 'look what my eye has seen or my mind has conceived' attitude.) But you want feedback on your three images, not the opinions of anyone who merely blithers on, and on, and on, and on....

Of the three you posted, the second has the most potential. (That's not to say nos. 1 or 3 are 'bad' or anything, its just that they might be somewhat limited....) Though compositionally challenged, #2 does have the benefit of a subtle --not quite pastel, but trending in that direction-- but complimentary palette (as in colors opposite each other on the color wheel), and that promotes a degree of objective interest. "Subject"-wise, there's a slight but sufficient 'difference' in the tonalities of the various tree trunks that suggests there's a 'variation' among type, and that amidst the like, there is difference nonetheless. Phrased differently, you could say the slight variation provides a contrast, though not to the point of conflict. Even done/seen/shot subtly, a degree of tension is achieved, and that provides interest.

Personally, I applaud images that don't have an obvious 'subject,' by which I mean they don't seek to portray some particular 'thing.' That's because I find 'things' of far less interest or concern (to me) than the relationships that diverse --and sometimes opposing, ironic, or simply color-wheel-wise complimentary-- may have to each other in a visual sense. Work on content, work on composition, work on balancing those two. Camera-wise, you don't appear to have any problems.

Thanks so much for your critique and encouragement.
I always forget which is first, second, etc.
So, would you please let me know which photos you're referring to by top, middle, and bottom?

Thanks SO much!

I always wonder if something that I see through my eyes evokes the same reaction that I have in others who are more experienced at looking at photos objectively.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the subject. I am usually in a school taking photos of the kids for the yearbook and I'm pretty good about capturing emotions, interactions, and what they're doing. Since I'm not in school these days, I have been confined to the house, and I can't tell you how many images of flowers, squirrels, chipmunks, and birds at my feeder that I've taken! I've been sending them to my 94-year-old mom in NYC because...well...she's my mom!

I very much appreciate your comments.
