Not sure what to search for from a website / software perspective so if this has been posted just point me there..

Looking for software or a website software that I could put on a website of my own that lets me provide secure access to selective photos per user and will enable the user to filter photos based on tags in the photos meta data.

Thank you!

John

Check out godaddy.com. They have a simple site-builder that I think will do what you need.

Check out Coppermine Photo Gallery to see if it will meet your needs. User accounts can be set for certain galleries only, tags can be entered into Coppermine for searching.
How much coding do you do? Coding knowledge will be helpful for tweaking the header and footer. Being familiar with FTP will be a help also.
(This is what I use.)

From a website perspective, you could check out www.smugmug.com or www.zenfolio.com. Also, I suggest you use the search feature on the UglyHedgehog and search on "photo website" for previous discussions on this subject.

If you are using Adobe subscription 9.99 then you already have up to five websites with password protection for site or section. Very easy to build and update. Check out portfolio.Adobe.com

One frustrating practice that seems to be common among providers is their pricing plan. They will offer a good price for two or three years. When it is time to renew, the price will triple - or more. That's when I look for a new provider. Switching providers is easier said than done.

And if you don't, well, you don't...

Yea, I've switched hosting providers for a few people, it's a hassle.
There are a few I'll NEVER use (way over-priced) and one that has been my favorite so far.

What do you mean by "secure access"?

Are you trying to avoid having your photos downloaded? If your computer displays an image on your monitor, it can be downloaded. The only thing you can do is reduce the dimensions of the image to avoid having the full size image downloaded. There is nothing that can prevent someone from taking a screenshot.

My solution to the problem is not to care whether someone else uses my image.

Well, tell us more. Which would you never use and which one is your favorite?

I use wix, the free account. I gave my own gibson from godaddy, where my home page resides also. So in reality I use two sites.

Wic will do all you want and more. Easy to use.
